John Casson in Afghanistan
Welcome to my fundraising website in aid of Sandy Gall’s Afghanistan Appeal
You will recall Sandy from his days as ITN’s intrepid reporter and co-presenter of News at Ten.
During his many visits to Afghanistan during the days before and after the Russian occupation we would regularly see him on television reporting authoritatively on the human tragedy in that country.
Over the last 22 years Sandy and his family have given tremendous help to the people of this war torn country.
Since 1986 his charity, Sandy Gall’s Afghanistan Appeal has identified, assessed, measured, built, fitted and rehabilitated over 20,000 and physiotherapy treatment for over 50,000 Afghani children and adults who were either born limbless or who have lost their limbs as a result of accident or war.
During all the terrible upheaval and war in Afghanistan and the oppressive rule of the Taliban Sandy’s charity remained ‘in country’ continuingly helping the Afghani people despite the risks when other charities would have understandably pulled out.
Three years ago I had the great honour to meet Sandy and his wife Eleanor who so ably supports Sandy with his charity. I was very impressed (understatement) by the work of Sandy Gall’s Afghanistan Appeal
Please be assured that this is a very well run and administered charity. Their daughter Fiona has been in Afghanistan for many years personally involved with the charities day to day activities despite the dangers. Unlike many charities little is spent on administration overheads, donations are spent wisely.
To help this outstanding charity I went with Sandy in August and September 2008 to Afghanistan, not only to see for my self at first hand the work of Sandy Gall’s Afghanistan Appeal but to visit several parts of the country and meet the people, not only Afghans but also those involved in the countries security and reconstruction.
As a result I returned with over 500 photographs and many video reports and interviews which support my briefing on what I found. From reaction to-date from those who have seen my briefing the consensus is that they had no idea of the many issues facing Afghanistan, nor how much these wonderful Afghan people have suffered.
If you have already supported me please visit John Casson in Afghanistan to read this briefing. If you have forgotten the password please request it to be sent again through Contact.
If you have not supported me and would like to read my briefing please visit Donation.
I am delighted to advise that as a result of generous sponsorship ands support I have raised £15,000 for this worthwhile charity, Sandy Galls Afghanistan Appeal
