On Thursday 2nd October 2008 fifty guests enjoyed an evening at Gidleigh Park the occasion was a complete ‘sell out’.
The only Michelin two star restaurant in the West Country the dinner was prepared by high profile and highly successful chef Michael Caines MBE
During aperitifs (generously sponsored by Great Western Wine) and canapés Sandy Gall gave an informative talk outlining the present difficult situation in Afghanistan. After his talk he answered a number of guests questions.
A four course dinner was enjoyed by everyone, the wine was again generously sponsored by Great Western Wine the cheese course by Country Cheeses
Then it was my turn to give an illustrated talk on my findings in Afghanistan which included the security situation in Kabul, the tragedy of Bamiyan, the disgraceful land mining of the country by the Russians and Taliban and its effect on the Afghans and then the work of Sandy’s charity.
The evening concluded with an auction.
The success of the evening would not have been possible without the generous support of Gidleigh Park, Michael Caines MBE and the great team at Gildeigh Park who worked so hard, not only on the evening but in all the planning. I am very very grateful to all of them.
My thanks also to the generous support and sponsorship of Great Western Wines, Country Cheeses, Coutts & Co and Ashfords, thank you.
